January 2010

Effective January 2010, the Dave Slivinski Band is merging with the Dynabrass band from Detroit MI.  This will create a high energy band playing a variety of music.  Please stay tuned for the 2010 schedule.

The Dave Slivinski Band is a high energy variety band playing German, Polish and Slovenian-style polkas and waltzes, as well as country, classic rock, 50’s & 60’s rock, blues, and swing music.

Leader of the band Dave Slivinski began his musical career at a young age. By the time Dave graduated from High School he had played with The Melody Kings from Gaylord MI for four years and had released three albums. Over the past 25 years, Dave has played full time with bands such as the Michigan Connection, Steve Drzewicki, and the Motor City Sound. He has filled in for events with greats such as Polka Family, Frankie Yankovic, Henny and the Versa J’s, Jimmy Sturr, Lenny Gomulka, the Goodtime Dutchmen and many more! For a few years, Dave played with a Michigan based country band which opened for many national stars including Steve Warner, Neil McCoy and Ronnie Millsap.    Most notably, Dave played with the Marv Herzog band for nearly 15 years. After Marv passed away, Dave took over the band, added some new talented musicians and developed his own style. The new band became “The Dave Slivinski Band” and released their first CD in April of 2004!   Dave, his wife Sue and their four children reside in Frankenmuth, MI.

Chris Hedrich plays keyboard, accordion and trumpet. Chris grew up in a family of talented polka musicians as his father and uncle each have their own bands.   Chris’ ability to move from the accordion to the trumpet allows the band to really crank out some awesome German and Polish songs. Chris is a multi-talented musician who does a great job on a wide variety of styles such as country, rock and swing music. Chris, his wife Kim, and their 3 children live in Jackson, MI.

Tim Taylor is the band’s highly accomplished guitar player!   Tim began playing the guitar as a young boy practicing on his dad’s Gibson. Tim began playing professionally in 1986 and soon after he started teaching guitar lessons which he currently does full-time with over 60 students. Tim has played with several local country and rock bands and has had the opportunity to open for many national acts including Black Hawk, Aaron Tippin, and Sammy Kershaw.   Tim recently took 1st place at the Saginaw County Guitar Center’s competition and placed 2nd in the Midwestern United States. People come from far away to see his talented fingers fly across the guitar and to listen to his awesome voice! Tim, his wife Christine, and their two children live in Saginaw, MI.

Aaron Slivinski is the band’s drummer. Aaron is the son of leader Dave Slivinski and has been the full time drummer of the band during the past year. Aaron has been performing on stage playing the drums since he turned 6 years old and has performed with many of the nation’s top bands including Grammy winning bands, Jimmy Sturr Orchestra, Lenny Gomulka, and many more. In 2002, Aaron became the youngest person ever to receive the United States Polka Association “New Horizon” award for upcoming musicians in the polka field.  Aaron received this award at the tender age of 9 years old for his accomplishments as a musician.  Aaron is currently 15 years old and currently plays both the drums and trumpet in the school band. Aaron is also active in sports and his church.

While watching the Dave Slivinski Band, you will see that the band’s first passion is polka music. They play traditional polka styles including Polish, German, and Slovenian styles. The band has developed a sound of their own and they also do a great job with some classics such as “Folsom Prison”, “Ring of Fire”, “Lean on Me”, and “Kryptonite” played as high energy polkas that have become crowd favorites. In addition to polka music, the band plays a large variety other styles but most songs feature the “squeeze box”. This variety and uniqueness makes the band incredibly versatile and requested for many festivals, concerts, weddings, and corporate events.

Based out of Frankenmuth, MI, The Dave Slivinski Band is conveniently located for jobs throughout the State of Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin and currently plays about 50 jobs per year throughout the Midwest.
